DERMAPLANING

Dermaplaning is the controlled scraping of the skin using a sterile, surgical butter blade held at a 45-degree angle for the removal of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the surface of the skin. It is also highly effective in minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars, while leaving skin smooth, supple and vibrant. It is great for prepping the skin prior to peels and enzyme treatments and to increase the penetration of active ingredients in treatment room and homecare products.

PREPPING YOUR SKIN FOR DERMAPLANING:

**Before your DERMAPLANE appointment it is important that you are not using any products that would present a contraindication.

  • No Botox or Fillers injections one week before receiving treatment.
  • Please refrain from using any Retinols, AHA’s, Benzoyl Peroxide or preforming any heavy exfoliation 5 days before your treatment.
  • Accutane users must wait 1 year after completing your medication before receiving a peel.
  • No professional skin resurfacing procedures 14 days before your peel.
  • No cold sores.
  • No sunburned or windburned skin.

POST DERMAPLANING TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you need to be out in the sun wear a Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 or higher.
  • Delay exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms and saunas for 24-48 hours.
  • Wait 7 days before any facial waxing or threading.

WHAT IS A PEEL

A treatment that involves applying an acid or solution to the skin to exfoliate and remove damaged layers of the epidermis. Peels are great for treating hyperpigmentation, rosacea, acne, acne scars and photo-aged/damaged skin. The removal of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin stimulates cell turnover. You will notice an improvement in skin tone and firmness, a refining of fine lines and pore size, and a reduction in breakouts and oil production all contributing to a more youthful glow. They have various strengths that are classified into four different levels: VERY SUPERFICIAL, SUPERFICIAL, MEDIUM DEPTH AND DEEP.

STRENGTH LEVELS

0 VERY SUPERFICIAL – Lightest professional exfoliation with no down time. These peels are a great way to be introduced to the world of peels if you are a first-timer.

1 SUPERFICIAL PEEL – Great for skin that is ready for more active treatments. These peels lead to little or no downtime and you will have light flaking or peeling for a few days post peel.

2 MEDIUM DEPTH PEELS (MAX IS 4 LAYERS) – Provides a deeper desquamation to the skin. Exfoliation occurs two to three days after treatment with light to medium flaking and peeling.

3 DEEP PEELS – Can only be performed by a Physician and includes extensive down time.

PREPPING YOUR SKIN FOR YOUR PEEL

**Before your PEEL it is important that you are not using any products that would present a contraindication.

  • Please refrain from using any Retinols, AHA’s, Benzoyl Peroxide or preforming any heavy exfoliation 7 days before your treatment.
  • Accutane users must wait 1 year after completing your medication before receiving a peel.
  • Any oral medication that you may be taking for your skin needs to be stopped 30 days before your peel.
  • No professional skin resurfacing procedures 14 days before your peel.
  • No waxing, threading or tweezing 3 days before your peel and 7 days after.
  • No sunburn or windburn on your face.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR PEEL

After your peel you may be a little pink but usually you have a healthy glow and your skin looks rejuvenated. Usually the day after your peel your skin begins to feel dry and tight. By the second or third day your skin will begin to peel, flake, shed etc. and will continue to do that for 2 to 4 days depending on the level of the peel and condition of your skin. Your skin will look and feel its best usually 5 days after the treatment. If you have a special event that you are preparing for please make sure you book your peel at least 7 days in advance to allow time for appropriate skin shedding.

**No sun exposure or tanning bed for 7 days after your peel (or ever.) If you need to be out in the sun a Broad Spectrum 30 SPF or higher is recommended.

WAXING TIPS

Welcome to the world of waxing! If you have never been waxed or it has been some time since your last wax please recognize that removal may be more uncomfortable the first time out of the gate…. but once you are committed to a regular waxing schedule each appointment will get easier. In addition, the before and after care of the area having hair removed is critical to a great waxing experience. Please read through ALL of the SKIN 101 WAXING TIPS to avoid any hairy situations.

  • ACCUTANE users must wait a year after completing the medication before receiving any waxing services on face or body.
  • PLEASE STOP USING THE FOLLOWING 5-7 DAYS BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY WAXING ON YOUR FACE: Retinol, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Benzoyl Peroxide and any other topical medication that may affect your skin.
  • Please let us know about any oral medication that you are presently taking that may affect your waxing service.
  • We recommend avoiding caffeine and alcohol before your appointment. They will increase your discomfort.
  • Grow hair out to at least 1/4 inch or 4 weeks of growth.
  • EXFOLIATION is key to a great waxing experience. You should be exfoliating DAILY with a granular scrub at least ONE WEEK before your wax appointment and NOT exfoliating for 3-4 days after your wax appointment. Regular exfoliation in between wax sessions is necessary to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Do not take a hot sudsy shower for at least 24 hours after a wax session. Instead take a luke warm shower and avoid using chemically formulated soap and mesh sponges and/or loofahs as they can harbor bacteria.
  • Do not moisturize a freshly waxed area for 2-3 days.
  • Do not work-out right after your wax appointment. Wait at least 48 hours.
  • No exposure to sun or tanning beds on the area being waxed 48 hours before and after your appointment.
  • Do not use swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs or steam rooms until at least 48 hours after your wax appointment.
  • If you are waxing for a “special occasion”, such as a wedding, honeymoon or vacation, DO NOT have your first wax right before the event. We recommend having your first wax 4 to 5 weeks out and then your “special occasion” wax appointment 2-3 days before the event.
  • Do not wax 5 to 7 days before your menstrual cycle due to increased sensitivity.
  • For my Bikini and Brazilian clients, please wait 2-3 days after your wax appointment before engaging in intercourse.
  • Do not make a lip wax appointment if you have a cold sore. It must be completely healed.
